September & October Summary

So...yes it has been a while since I've been on here! A lot has changed and happened in the last two months! I moved back to uni at the start of September but had to return for a short period because of personal reasons, but now I'm completely settled in nicely and enjoying my course (despite everything being online for the time being!). I've been through some dark times recently; a flatmate of mine contracted COVID-19 so we were forced to self-isolate for two weeks from Week 2 to Week 4 of uni (fully recovered now). This was pretty rough, as I kept seeing people walking in to town, my course mates were sharing the work that they had done in online lectures, and I also once saw someone walking past with a camera taking photos so it was quite hard watching them walking around freely whilst I was stuck inside...

Anyways, on a more creative note - I've finally been out to shoot! Since I came out of isolation on Saturday, I've been busy out and about (safely), doing course-related work. One of my module assignments requires me to create a documentary video for one half of the project, so I decided to hire out a Sony A7Rii with a 24-70mm lens and a nice 85mm lens to go along with it. I really enjoyed having this out for the past few days - I forgot how nice this camera range is, and the 85mm was insanely good! The camera and the quality of the images are of course so different compared to my Nikon D3300, I'm really looking forward to getting it out again and taking tonnes more photos!

With the Sony to play around with, I went out for a long walk in Leicester and got lost in thought; my headphones were in, but I was barely paying attention to the music and I just kept on walking!

Another module requires me to choose a topic to base my project on, so I chose focus on 'Abandoned/Derelict', and I went around with my trusty Nikon F50 and a roll of HP5 inside. My intentions for this project are to document how lockdown has affected the local community, so the day before lockdown I went about Leicester photographing everything I possibly could, all of the hustle and bustle of shoppers getting their last bits from the shops, before they close for the next 4 weeks. See a selected few photos below, and here for the rest of the images that I took.

I noted in the PowerPoint presentation that I have for this project a list of film that I want to try specifically for this, which will be expensive, so hopefully there will be a lot more film to come on here. I'm also hoping to try and re-learn how to develop my own film, with access to the darkrooms in university, and maybe experiment along the way when processing negatives.
