March Summary

This is an overview of the work and things that I have done related to university and my various modules...as well as photos from around Leicester.

16th of March

This photo was taking around midday, amidst the Coronavirus pandemic 'panic buying' of household products, essentials and groceries. A lot of shops across the UK saw shelves stripped of toilet and kitchen roll, pasta and pasta sauce, rice and food (only to name a few!) which resulted in many scenes like the one above. Restrictions were also placed to limit items to a few per person, which has now been lifted in many places as I write this post. In the 3 hectic weeks it has been since I took this photo, a lot has happened - stricter rules on social distancing and leaving the house (only going to the shop for essentials, daily exercise etc.) and the PM himself being admitted to hospital. This pandemic has also affected many other things such as education - schools, colleges and universities being shut down further leading to teaching being moved online.

Here is a little 'behind the scenes' shot of a studio shoot that I did for a module based on portraiture (studio or portable flash was required for photoshoots both on-location and studio-environment based). My whole idea for this project changed drastically when I

walked past an Extinction Rebellion poster outside the Indoor Market in Birmingham, and I kind of had one of those lightbulb moments. So now, it's based on plastic waste after doing a bit more research into what I could incorporate into my shoots that was environment related. The main photographers that I researched for this project were Mandy Barker and Hendrik Kerstens - I sort of merged and combined their photography together to create my images and idea of what I wanted to achieve with my studio shoots in particular. I also looked around on fashion websites to see if I could try and replicate any images in my own way, as well as get inspiration.

28th of March

One of many sunset photos that I've taken during this lockdown period. I've always been a fan of taking photographs; when I'm on holiday either abroad or in Cornwall, I like to take an evening walk at around sunset if the weather is nice, so I can get some pictures and document it. The weather has been pretty nice recently, meaning that I have taken a few sunset photos...head over to my iPhone Photography collection for a few!
